Naturalized Sexism, Hate and Videogames

art-calavera:

I apologize to my followers who come here seeking artworks and not an editorial column from me, but there’s more affairs than just arts to be dealt with today.

There’s been some harsh prejudices thrown from one side to another in this whole “women and sexism in videogames” lately, that have caused a massive ammount of hatred, pain and frustration for both sides, and that keeps generating nonsensical and selfish arguments.

First of all, and I can’t stress this enough, throwing numbers and graphics as valid argumentation is in no way a responsable way to approach a conflict, since every single study is potentially biased by cherry picking. ( the concept that “There are three types of lies, small lies, big lies, and statistics” can be pretty silly, sure, but remember that if my neighbour has four cars, and I have none, for estatistics, we both have two cars)

There are real life, personal and individual situations that can’t be generalized by our chosen point of view, and we do need to step down from our morality throne, and put ourselves on the other person flesh to understand the most human nature of their claim. Even if you fiercely disagree with them, you need to understand and consider their opinion as valid, and to truly acknowledge that you might be wrong.
